The Varanus Komodoensis or mostly called as the Komodo dragon is a very large species almost the same with lizard. This species can be found on the area of Flores islands such as Rinca, Gili, and the Komodo Island itself. But, it is also possible to find out this species on the area on Flores, Padar and Motang. Komodo itself is also a species from the family of monitor lizard or Varanidae. So, this is the gigantic species of lizard which can reach the length around three meters. The very large Komodo may reach the weight up to 70 kilograms, and because of the unique giant size of Komodo, the islands where Komodo lives can be described as the island of gigantism.

Orangutan is an exclusive species of great apes from Asia. To be more accurate they are native of Indonesia. They are divided into two more species which are Bornean/Kalimantan : orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) which can only be found in rain forest in Borneo/Kalimantan and Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii) which can only be found in Sumatra’s rain forest. The Bornean orangutan itself is divided into three other more species. As for this article, we will be more focused on Bornean orangutan.

Nowadays, it is important for people to recognize the most beautiful bird which called as Twelve-wired bird of paradise or Seleucidis Melanoleucus, or what people said based on the local name as Cendrawasih bird. This bird has beautiful velvet yellow and black color, and that’s why it is called as the bird of paradise because of the beautiful appearance. The most popular of Bali myna is about the white stocky myna because of the crest on the drooping shape and the white color. This bird is also well known with the wings and tail on black tips, and this is the uniqueness which becomes the characteristic of this bird.

The situation of this animal described as critically endangered and it is already announced since 2008 by IUCN. Actually, the population of this Javan leopard is only about 250 for the mature and it is already decreased nowadays.

The Facts on Java Rhino
The Java Rhinoceros is also known as the lesser one horned rhinoceros. This species is a member of the Rhinocerotidae family and is included in one of the five extant rhinoceroses. The Java Rhino has a resemblance with the Indian Rhinoceros because they come from the same genus. Both species have similar mosaicked skin that looks like armor and as strong as armor. However, the Java Rhino is smaller than the Indian Rhino because its length is only 3 – 3.2 meter in average and 1.4 – 1.7 meter in average height. In term of the size, this rhino is almost similar to the black rhinoceros from the Diceros genus.

As its name suggests, this kind of animal can only be found exclusively in Sumatra. One city that is most well known to have a high population of Sumatran Elephant is Lampung. The Sumatran Elephant is also known by the locals as Gajah Sumatra or Elephas Maximus. They can distinguish by other elephants because they have smaller ears than the African Elephant. They Sumatran Elephant also have a more curved spine than the African elephant. Another distinguishing feature is the tusks. The female Sumatran elephant rarely have tusks and even when they do, the tusks are barely visible from a glance. You can actually see the female Sumatran Elephant tusks when they open their mouth.

Bengkulu’s Beruang Madu (Helarctos malayanus) is one of the samples of Indonesia’s richness of the animal species. The Beruang Madu is also known as the Sun Bear is the smallest bear in the world. With only 1.40 m in height, the Sun Bear is only less then 1/2 the size of the largest bear in the family, the polar bear. The Sun Bear’s back height is 70 cm in average. Their weight is only around 50 – 65 kg. They have long finger nails that they used to climb trees with straight branches.

 About the Sumatran Tiger
In Jambi, Sumatera, you will be able to meet the gorgeous big cat called the Sumatran Tiger or Harimau Sumatera (Panthera tigris). This animal is one of the six sub species of tigers that are still existing until know. However, this amazing tiger is critically endangered. It is on that status because there are only about 400 Sumatran Tiger known to be still living in the wild. As tigers are sitting on the top of the food chain, they are the predators that can also control the population of the animals under them in the food chain. And therefore, should this tiger be extinct, the balance of the forest may be disturbed as there will be no population control for certain animals anymore. There are factors that make the tigers’ population decrease. Among the factors are the lost of habitat because of the deforestation and the illegal hunting.
